  • Land-use planning
  • Permitting processes / policy integration
  • Reporting official statistics
  • Socio-economic and environmental impact assessments

Challenge the practice is addressing: This practice addresses the development of an augmented reality (AR) solution which visualizes 3D geological data to eventually improve exploration success rates, reduce cost and lead times. Furthermore, the goal of this project is to improve communication between stakeholders. Using these innovative technologies in the exploration sector will provide high data precision and efficiency.

Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: To create a 3D model of the surface accurate data and accurate geological observations need to be collected. The project will than develop a smart glass device app which will help mining professionals to detect whether the geological model resembles the configuration of the rocks in nature.

Expected impact/goal of the practice: The expected impact of this practice is that it will safe working time and improve the quality of the geological models and eventually decrease costs in mining and exploration projects and mining operations.

Who is the target user group of the practice/intervention or implementing the practice/intervention? This practice is in particular relevant in industry contexts.
