Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: - Provides insight as to what communities can expect from a mining project - Helps affected communities understand what Social License to Operate means and what level of Social License to Operate their project has at a given moment - By having a common accepted approach toward Social License to Operate, companies will know what is expected of them and can employ similar approaches - The Social License to Operate model developed for Europe shows what companies need to address to achieve different levels of Social License to Operate and what could lead to the loss of Social License to Operate. - The Social License to Operate model should help officials develop regulations to ensure more responsible mines - Potential new roles and responsibilities for government in the context of Social License to Operate are suggested, such as that of mediator between companies and communities -The Social License to Operate model shows both how to gain and lose Social License to Operate and the reasons for why either would happen. -The guidelines are the first attempt to define the rights, roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders.. Although these will forever be in flux, this document provides a starting point for dialogue.
