Challenge the practice is addressing: Together with Swedish mining companies, SVEMIN launched a Mining with Nature (2019-2020) roadmap for increased consideration of biological diversity in mining projects. The goal is to create sustainable practices and solutions that help the Swedish mining industry contribute positively to biodiversity in all regions where operations occur.
Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: First, the paper describes the current state of the Swedish mining and minerals industry and outlines how the industry can contribute to fighting climate change and biodiversity loss. The roadmap gives recommendations for reaching the set targets, there are different sections for 1) recommendations for cross-industry cooperation through Svemin, 2) business-level recommendations, and 3) recommendations for cooperation with other stakeholders. The document also lists research and innovation needs in areas such as: “systems for evaluating biodiversity, “systems for streamlining biodiversity efforts”, and “Guidelines for setting science-based targets”.
Expected impact/goal of the practice: The aim of the roadmap is to create an environment where practices and processes in the extractives industry benefit both nature and business.
Who is the target user group of the practice/intervention or implementing the practice/intervention? The roadmap is aimed at companies across the extractive industry
