Achieving common objectives and a holistic approach for action in the stakeholder dialogue (Austrian's Raw Material Alliance)

Challenge the practice is addressing: Multi-dimensional challenges of primary minerals supply (e.g. social licence to operate, mining impacts on ecosystems, long-term business investment decisions) directly or indirectly impact or involve a large and diverse set of stakeholders. With the multifaceted interests reflected by a diverse set of stakeholders involved in the platform, a precise and common definition of objectives was both a challenge, as well as a pre-condition for its success within each topical area discussion.

Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: a) Common understanding of problem setting: recognition of the problem setting and the resolution of questions concerning the security of raw material supply. b) Facilitated and dialogic discussion

Expected impact/goal of the practice: The overarching objective of this platform is to increase stakeholder involvement for policy-making on the reduction of import dependency and increasing the supply security of raw materials important for the Austrian economy. A holistic approach for secure and sustainable raw material supply relates to an all-encompassing view on the commodity sector, including both primary and secondary raw materials. The primary production of raw materials is indispensable for maintaining raw materials supply.
