Challenge the practice is addressing: This practice addresses the restoration of Laußnitz I open pit into a habitat of different ponds, raw soil areas, and slope structures which have become important for protected species.

Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: As a result of the restoration work done by Kieswerk Ottendorf-Okrilla GmbH & Co. KG on the Laußnitz I open pit, a variation of new ponds, raw soil areas, and slope structures that were developed at the start of 2020 have grown in significance for protected species like the green toad and the blue-winged grasshopper, among others. The entire area for species protection is expected to rise to approximately five hectares as a result of the numerous species that have since arrived and reproduced here.

Expected impact/goal of the practice: The aim of this practice is to restore the former quarry into a habitat for wildlife.

Who is the target user group of the practice/intervention or implementing the practice/intervention? This practice is for companies in the extractive industry.
