Challenge the practice is addressing: This practice addresses the process of extraction and the process of restoration at Cortijo Nuevo gravel pit.

Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: The Cortijo Nuevo gravel pit (Seville, Spain) is an aggregate extraction site where the extraction and restoration processes are carried out concurrently. The initial restoration plan has recently been revised in order to perform new activities that may be able to provide an extra added value in the area of influence where the company works, as part of Prebetong's profound commitment to society and sustainable development. Currently, four types of businesses cohabit on the company's 50 hectares of land: mining, agricultural, food processing, and tourism. All of these, when combined, provide a significant source of employment and wealth in an economically devastated area. When the extractive work in one of the plots is finished, the restoration process begins: filling, levelling, soil enrichment, and the planting of orange trees.

Expected impact/goal of the practice: The expected goal of this practice is to use the extraction site for multiple purposes and after extraction has finished to restore the site to a natural habitat.

Who is the target user group of the practice/intervention or implementing the practice/intervention? This practice is for companies in the extractive industry.
