Ensuring the primary supply of EU raw materials by 2050

  • Health and safety
  • Land-use planning
  • Permitting processes / policy integration
  • Reporting official statistics
  • Socio-economic and environmental impact assessments

Challenge the practice is addressing: The need to increase the supply and strengthen the competitiveness of the European mineral and metal sector.

Concrete practice to achieve the expected goal: The good practices to reach the 2050 roadmap goals include: improved geochemical and geophysical exploration methods, improve systems to collect and predict ore-body and rock mass information, improve the blasting process, increase automation and digitisation in quarries and mines, improve methods and technologies for improved ore recovery and ground control, improve health and safety, ensure access to deposits through land use planning

Expected impact/goal of the practice: Europe will strengthen its technological leadership with respect to economically viable and environmentally sound mining and mineral extraction; health and safety measures will be improved; environmental footprint will be decreased; and mass flow analysis to the public and policymakers will allow for better decision making.

Who is the target user group of the practice/intervention or implementing the practice/intervention? All stakeholders but primarily policy makers and industry
